Sovereignty, Society, and Identity

Tools of Transformation

While identity is a social construct, that construction should be consensual and participatory. Currently dominant models of identity reinforce a pattern of objectification and encode this at the infrastructure level. With "Big Tech" platforms like Google, Facebook, and Amazon positioning themselves as de facto identity providers it is more important than ever for us to deploy the infrastructure of freedom that gives people sovereign control over their own digital representations of identity.

The Federated Authentication Network is one initiative in this very active development space. Join us for an in-depth discussion and optional onboarding session.

Participants

Day Waterbury of the Federated Authentication Network (FAN) is our host, speakers to be announced.

Future Proof Social Media

Tools for Transformation

The predominant forms of social media give us a potential reach beyond anything available to us as individuals a mere generation ago. On the flip side of this equation, we find a marked decrease in mental health, the unfiltered spreading of fake news and an increase in polarisation.

Join us for an open and participatory discussion on how we might turn this ship around and create tools that empower us, without limiting our reach and potential impact as changemakers.

Living Economies

An open access (or free access) economy is a proposed alternative method of organising resources and services in human society.

The session will be hosted by Robert Schram and the speaker will be Colin Turner.

Hour Twentytwo 1600 UTC

The Game of Good

Tools for Transformation

Gamification has been used to manipulate us since the days of Edward Bernays, and probably long before that, if in less elaborate ways.

We are constantly being gamed and nudged as consumers in whatever direction the higher bidder bids. But what if we took a page from the game book and designed games with outcomes we actually and consciously want? Join us as we reclaim the game!
